Here are eight films that should serve as a reminder to people of the astounding effects that global warming can cause to the planet.
Bambi
The 1942 film was produced by Walt Disney and had moist eyes in almost every theatre it played in. The story revolves around Bambi, a mule deer, his parents, his friends Thumper, a pink nosed rabbit. The movie is based on an Austrian novel and the message it gave out has had a lasting influence. Human behaviour influences the natural world to a catastrophic end.
2012
The movie, which had a budget of $200 million and grossed over $769 million also became the fifth highest grossing film of 2009.The story is mediocre but what really holds your attention is apocalypse itself.Yes, it’s the special effects of the film, more than the human drama, which completely sweep you off your feet. The film received mixed reviews but had tremendous positive response due to the visual effects in the film.

James Cameron created this masterpiece and extended the possibilities of what movies can do. The movie is a spectacle of conflict between aliens and greedy humans and all of this revolves around environmental and spiritual themes. The movie has great cinematography of the alien land and their conflict over natural resources.
San Andreas
The American disaster film stars Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Alexandra Daddario and Carla Gugino. The drama/disaster movie is set during the events of an earthquake and how a rescue-chopper pilot and his ex-wife try to locate their daughter before destruction strikes again. The CGI done to show the extent of damage and destruction will leave you awestruck. Back in 2015, the movie seemed quite unrealistic. Your thoughts might change if you watch again in 2019.
Wall-E
Wall-E is the last robot left on Earth. He spends his days tidying up the uninhabitable planet left behind. During the 700 years on the planet he develops a personality and falls in love with a probe that comes back to Earth on a scanning mission. What follows is a cute love story between two non-living things that ranges from the barren planet Earth left behind and the rest of the galaxy. The movie is another reminder of a world post the apocalypse and the dire consequences one could face.
The Day After Tomorrow
An American science fiction disaster film starring Jake Gyllenhaal shows the catastrophic climatic effects following the disruption of the North Atlantic Ocean circulation in a series of extreme weather events that usher in global cooling and lead to a new ice age. The movie turned out to be a great entertaining disaster film but with a chilling subtext. The director had spoken outright that his casting of a weak president in the film was intended to criticise the climate change policy of the George W. Bush administration. Emmerich believed that it was necessary to showcase the increased unity of people in the face of disaster.
Happy Feet
Happy Feet left a lasting impression for several reasons. The movie tells the story of the emperor penguin Mumble, who does not have a heart song, which results in him feeling alienated from the other penguins. He finds his happiness in tap dancing. Despite being a movie for the young ones, it didn’t shy away from exploring environmental issues and that is also what makes the movie so important even in today’s times. Climate change, overfishing and pollution are some of the underlying subtexts of the movie. So, the next time you are cutting beer can holders before throwing them, just think of the dancing penguins.
Interstellar
The Christopher Nolan epic science fiction film is a beautiful render of human emotions caught amidst an uninhabitable planet. The movie paints the portrait of a brave new time when humans are finally to cut ties with the dying home planet and embrace the nomadic nature. Interstellar’s plot is the perfect depiction of how humans are unwilling to change our lifestyle and take environmental degradation seriously. It’s been five years since the movie was released and hopefully things have changed…for the better.
These eight movies try to wake us up to the reality of environmental degradation caused by humans through time and are a constant reminder that we need to do our bit to save the planet.
