Symptoms Of Depression And How To Fix Them

It is quite a big thing to say that one is depressed. Depression though inclusive of it is very different from sadness. Depression is an overwhelming feeling of constant sadness, isolation, and despair. It can last for weeks or months. The good thing is, that depression can be cured. See if you can spot any of the following symptoms in you or in someone you know.

Symptoms of depression

  • Depressed mood most of the day. One may be feeling low or down in the dumps nearly every day. This can be mostly observed by people around him.
  • Significant diminished interest or pleasure in almost all activities, be it hobbies or sports. 
  • Significant weight loss or weight gain for no apparent reason. The person may also suffer from hypersomnia (sleeping too much).
  • Some people exhibit, psychomotor agitation, like constantly fidgeting with one’s clothes, pacing, restlessness. Some have the exact opposite called psychomotor retardation. This includes the slowing down of one’s movement or talking very quietly with slowed speech.
  • A depressed person feels tired and loss of energy nearly every day, even while doing the smallest of tasks. 
  • Feelings of worthlessness or guilt while ruminating over past mistakes.
  • Depression causes the decrease of a person’s ability to think, concentrate or even decide.
  • Recurring thoughts of death, suicidal thoughts, or even a suicide attempt at the extreme are symptoms of extreme clinical depression.

What Can You Do?

If you can relate to the above symptoms, you should seek professional help as soon as possible. Along with that, these are some steps you can take.

Consume Omega-3 Fatty Acids

The brain needs a steady supply of omega-3 to function properly, lack of which makes people prone to mental illnesses like depression.
