Through our life, we meet and become friends with different types of people whose definition of success may quiet possibly differ from ours. Some of them could have a toxic approach towards life, some could be blissfully unaware of the negative impact they have on those around them and some could get satisfaction from creating chaos.

While it’s important to learn how to deal with these kinds of people, it’s a greater step to realise that truly toxic people aren’t worth your time and energy as they create unnecessary stress and complexities.

Here are 10 such people you should look out for.

1. The Envious

The grass is always greener on the other side for this type of people. Their measure of success if always compared to the world’s, deriving no satisfaction from their own achievements. And truth be told, there will always be someone doing better than you but the time, effort and focus one puts on aspects that are out of their control defines their reality. This person will always be envious of your job, your career, your relationship, your intelligence, you name it because if they can’t have it, you can’t either.

2. The Gossip

Gossipers will always be on the lookout for more people to gossip about, deriving pleasure from other’s misfortunes. It might seem fun to gain an insight into someone else’s personal or professional life but in the end, the boundaries that you cross can not only make you feel gross but also hurt others. Not to mention the time that’s wasted on discussing other’s lives when there’s so much to learn and experience out there instead.

3. The Unfriendly Competitor

You won’t be surprised if you’ll come across or have already come across someone who creates competitions in their head, making everything into a game of one-upmanship. But the worst part about them is that they’re the only person competing, becoming unnecessarily unhappy when you succeed.

4. The Victim

These may be tough to identify as initially, you empathise with their problems but later on, begin to realise that their time of need it absolutely all the time. Victims usually bind themselves in a victim mentality, pushing away personal responsibility by looking at small speed bumps as uncrossable mountains. The victim chooses to drop out of the situation when times get tough instead of learning and growing along.

5. The Self-Absorbed

Self-absorbed people are usually in a bubble of their own, maintaining an impassionable distance from others. The biggest sign you face when hanging around self-absorbed people is when you start feeling completely alone. Suddenly everything just seems to be about them, and you end up becoming a tool used to build their self-esteem.

6. The Dishonest One

The key to any relationship is trust and honesty. While some of your friends or acquaintances may have gotten away with telling you a white-lie, dishonest people have a habit of lying constantly. Their insincerity and dishonesty can damage any relationship, even work-related and it can definitely harm you in more ways than one.

7. The Manipulator

People who make it a habit of manipulating others according to their preferences are always looking for something from the other person. They’re tricky people to deal with as they’re well aware of your likes and dislikes, your hobbies, what makes you laugh, and while in a friendship these things are great, manipulators use this information as part of a hidden agenda. They’ll do anything to win you over just so they can get what they want.

8. The Doomsayer

The complete opposite of a cheerleader, the doomsayer always has a negative outlook towards everything. Nothing is going to go according to plan and everything you say is wrong. The doomsayers always kill ideas.

9. The Judgemental

Quick to judge and quicker to voice their opinions out loud, you won’t have trouble finding the judgemental one in the group. Instead of appreciating and learning from others who are different from them in terms of creativity, ideology and mentality, judgemental people decide to have their own rigid opinion. They stifle your desire to be expressive and vocal about your feelings and passions by looking down on others who are trying to be themselves.

10. The Temperamental

Some people have no control over their emotions, draining your energy with silly and sometimes childish outbursts that are completely unjustified. After all, we’re all having difficult moments. Letting off steam may help them destress but projecting their feelings onto you can end up causing trouble. Their emotional instability makes them a difficult member to have in your inner circle and someone we suggest you wholeheartedly avoid.
